Flinders RangesPort Augusta has long been known as the "Crossroads of Australia" and the "Gateway to the Outback". It is also a gateway to the northern and central Flinders Ranges. The Flinders Ranges are a range of mountains stretching some 400 kilometres in length. They commence 200 kilometres north of Adelaide at Crystal Brook. They can be easily accessed from all states of Australia. From the eastern states via Adelaide, Mildura or Broken Hill. From the Northern Territory and Western Australia via Port Augusta and also from the Birdsville & Strzelecki Tracks will lead through the Flinders Ranges.

Wadlata Outback CentreThe Wadlata Outback Centre is the winner of six South Australian Tourism Awards is proudly owned and operated by the Port Augusta City Council.

Wadlata is a multi functional tourist attraction that includes;

  • a nationally accredited Visitor Information Centre
  • a Gift Shop
  • the Outback Tuckerbox
  • world class outback interpretive centre called the "Outback's Tunnel of Time".

Tunnels of TimeWadlata is recognised as a must see and do for all visitors travelling to the Flinders Ranges and the Outback Region or those en-route to the Northern Territory, Eyre Peninsula, Western Australia or to the southern areas of South Australia.

IT'S NEW AGAIN. $1M DOLLAR UPGRADE NOW COMPLETED. The Outbacks "Tunnel of Time" has a huge number of interpretive, interactive, three dimentional displays that provide a fun learning experience for the whole family.

Port Augusta is home to a resident pod of Bottlenose dolphins which are spotted 90% of the time & during late August you may be lucky enough to spot a Humpback whale whilst on the cruise.
